The Huntington Park Marching Band is the largest performing ensemble on campus. The band is made up of not only instrumental players, but also members of the colorguard. The focus of this ensemble is on learning a wide variety of marching band literature and contemporary marching techniques. No experience in marching is necessary to join! We accept any student who is interested.
The Marching Band performs numerous times throughout the fall. The marching band performs at all home football games, away games, pep rallies, and several marching competitions.
For the past three years, the marching band and colorguard have placed in the top 3 spots at multiple marching band competitions across southern California.
Drumline is a musical group combined of both marching and concert percussion instruments. In the Fall Semester, drumline practices and performs with the Huntington Park Marching Band. In the Spring Semester, the group is known as "Winter Drumline."
Winter Drumline is a course dedicated to the blending of percussion performance and movement. The class combines performance/competition preparation with musical and marching instruction at the introductory through advanced level. This group performance at multiple competitions throughout the semester and also performs at the Spring Band Concert.
COLORGUARD
The Colorguard is a pageantry orientated performance ensemble. This group visually interprets selected musical repertoire utilizing flags, rifles, sabers and other props together with basic dance moves, original choreography, and traditional marching techniques. Fall semester, the color guard performs as a unit with the marching band. During the spring semester, the Color Guard will learn a choreographed routine and compete at local “winter guard” competitions.
If you like to dance, this is a great group for you to join on campus. No experience necessary, we will take all students who want to join!
For the past three years, the colorguard has taken second place at the WGASC Colorguard Championships of Southern California.
Jazz Ensemble is an advanced level group where students study and perform music in the jazz idiom as arranged for the standard "big band" instrumentation of 4 to 5 trumpets, 4 to 5 trombones, 5 saxophones, and rhythm section consisting of at least piano and/or guitar, bass, and drums.
Students will study musical terminology, rhythmic figures, musical interpretation/expression, and playing technique.
The Jazz Band performs multiple times throughout the year for the student body, band concerts, and jazz festivals. Student participation requires previous experience on an instrument and approval by Ms. Anthony.
WIND ENSEMBLE
Wind Ensemble is a year-long musical ensemble for the school’s most advanced musicians. Wind Ensemble includes all wind instruments: flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, saxophone, trumpet, tuba, french horn, baritone, and percussion. Emphasis in this course is placed on contemporary and classical wind band repertoire suitable to concert band festivals and the concert stage.
This group performs at festivals and concerts of various types at set times throughout the year. This is our most advanced group on campus, membership requires previous experience on an instrument.
WIND SYMPHONY
Wind Symphony is a year-long for students who are in the beginning to intermediate levels on their instrument. This group includes all the basic wind instruments: flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, tuba, french horn, baritone, and percussion. Emphasis in this course is placed on contemporary and classical wind band repertoire suitable to concert band festivals and the concert stage. This group performs three times a year.
